If possible, I try to take more than one shot of what I'm taking a photo of, and then save the best of the lot. I agree it's good to be critical of your own work, but sometimes I will post a photo that I think is cool, and then I don't get a response, but photos I don't particularly like are raved over. You just never know what others will like. :)

i want to take more than one version of a shot but cause it's film i don't want to waste each frame. i'm thinking of getting back into digital but my digicam has gone a-la-crappy :/

it's totally acceptable to be Ultra critical of your own work. i bet your favorite author or musicians thinks the last thing they came up with sucks, and "coulda been better."

it's called human nature. (ya know, shoulda, coulda, woulda), but there is a solution!

(well, what i do.. )

Distance! Take a shot, write a story, and then put it away. And don't look at it or think about it or two weeks. go back to it and your first reaction will usaully be quite telling.

it seems to work for me.

thanks everyone :) i'm trying to revive my digicam tonight so i can take a zillion more photographs .. hopefully that will put my perfection issues to rest :P
