i must be the luckiest girl in the world
i can safely say that, so far, this year has been the best year of my life!
Regan and i have gotten married, we've seen radiohead together in our own city, i've managed to shoot off a few great shots of them while still soaking in all the thom yorke goodness, my dad arrives safely back in sydney from malaysia and he surprises me with not 1, not 2, not 3 but FOUR new toys for my canon 10D, and to top it all off, it's my birthday on thursday (the 29th) and there's quiet celebrations going on (quiet being the operative word, i don't think my brain or my body can handle more excitement).
before i make a big post on the new gear, i wanted to write a bit more about the radiohead shows in sydney over the long weekend.
first show, friday april 23 for both nights Regan was working that day, so i had to spend the day working up anticipation (not that i needed much help). first duty of the day was to drive over to my parents' house to pick up my sister's compact digital. because i was driving alot, httt was played over and over and over and made me even more crazy for the show that night! anyway, i managed to keep myself busy for the next few hours until Regan came home and we headed out to the ent cent at about 7PM.
we had seated tickets for the first night, and since we live about 5 mins away we wanted to get some radiohead shirts, radiohead buttons, radiohead poster pack and a couple radiohead posters before the show and before it all sold out. (man, we did buy alot.)
so we got up to our section to be seated, hand the lady our tickets and she takes us down to our seats. and by 'down' i mean, each time we passed 5 rows i looked back at Regan with a 'is she serious?' face - we were front row, right down the bottom which meant leg room and absolutely no chance of being blocked out by a taller person. bumblebeez 81 came on, and did their thing. (enough has been said about their music so i won't go into it). the 'arena' was still a third full at this time, but by the time the lights came back on for the interval it was full - radiohead were about to come on and people knew it!

radiohead's first night
set list started out with
there, there - drums either side of Thom Yorke ready to go. for the next two hours, the songs that we've all been waiting to hear live in australia were played and i was deflowered. (awww). since this was the first night, i was weary about waving around my camera - but soon enough i realised that no one cared so i happily took as many
photographs as my brain would let me. i even managed to get almost all (about
2 mins 38secs) of
You and Whose Army on video (which Regan and I have been watching back on the computer) seeing Thom do his Gollum/Smeagol camera work for crowd on the giant screens on the side of the stage!!
the night ended with
Everything In Its Right Place and it couldn't of been any better...
or so i thought.
second show, saturday 24 april turned out to be amazing in it's own right. we can't figure out whether it was because we had GA tickets, or because of the set list - but saturday night was the icing on the cake with a thousand chocolate layers.
i had planned on lining up at about 12PM, but since i was really tired and there were only 3 people at my door at that time - i decided to just wait for Regan to get home and we'll leave at 5PM. still early and still good enough to get second row! luckily though, we had door 1 tickets and it just so happened that door 1 was let in first that night. while we were waiting in line, Regan and I had some dinner and our friend Pete sat with us for a while to catch up on things (good seeing you Pete!). 7.15 came around and we all held up our yellow wristbands (that indicated to security that we had shown them our tickets) in a weird cult style - imagine 100 people walking in slowly, one arm in the air.
after about 20 mins sitting and waiting on the floor, a mad dash was made for the railing. a couple of japanese girls almost knocked Regan and me out trying to get a better position that they already had (and later on, one of them kicked me in the stomach trying to get out of there. grr). bumblebeez came on again, surprisingly they seemed a fraction better that second night...
lights came down again, after the interval, and there were were - left of centre in perfect view of Ed and Thom, me with my beautiful husband and a camera. if you know me, even a little bit, you will know that this was like dying and going to heaven.
before the shows, Regan and i talked about what songs we hoped we'd hear - and again luckily enough,
Like Spinning Plates, Just, Lucky, Exit Music, No Surprises, Myxomatosis were played all that night. many photographs were taken, many times i had to stop myself from crying. i looked around a few times that night, and so many people were just standing there in awe - their mouths open aswell. whether they were speechless, or couldn't stop singing everyone i could see and feel were so happy to be there.
i've forgotten about the kicks to the chest, that vomit smell that wafted my way during Exit Music, the backaches and neckaches of the next day - if i'm superficial or childish for saying it, then so be it - seeing Radiohead has made my life as complete as it can get.
a couple of special
radiohead entries at
shutterbug to be posted since i'll have more time to clean up the images i took. (and beware, you'll probably see me posting my photos every chance i get until the day i die.)
