welcome to america.

not that i'm scared or concerned, but hey it's interesting to know these things. especially when you're a foreigner heading into the states in the near future.

The handcuffs came off just before I was locked in a cell behind a thick glass wall and a heavy door. No bed, no chair, only two steel benches about a foot wide. There was a toilet in full view of anyone passing by, and of the video camera watching my every move. No pillow or blanket. A permanent fluorescent light and a television in one corner of the ceiling. It stayed on all night, tuned into a shopping channel.

thank god i'm no one in particular, haha! i guess if you're headed somewhere with the wrong visa, then you're going to get into some sort of trouble but i'm going to keep my trip strictly away from glass rooms and the shopping channel. i remember being at the airport and seeing what kinds of forms i'd have to fill out when i enter the country.. something about not being a nazi and having no ties to hitler (i kid you not). seems like a fun little form to fill out!

Oh yeah, the customs person I encountered in LA was super rude and got out of his 'cube' to lecture the queue of people how to properly fill out the form lest we want them "to get mad". Trust me, none of us wanted to see them get mad.

It's indeed a funny form. You also have to promise that you won't engage in any terrorist activities while in the US. I guess some checked the wrong box. I always wondered what would happen if you check "yes" in one of those boxes. The most fun of it all: at the bottom it says "if you answered yes to any of these questions, please contact officials at the airport". Yeah right.

Last time I filled in that form. It also noted that by answering yes to any of the questions didn't necessarily prevent you from entering the US !

So under certain conditions you could have been involved in Nazi war crimes or a terrorist and still be allowed in.

Its a strange world.
