negative nancy, but only for a second
i thought i would get this post out of the way before i start recalling the positives of the trip because i REALLY did enjoy myself and more times than this, i loved soaking everything in again and i tried to do as much as i could when i could. it's such an interesting place!
i know i complain about how boring my life is, and i probably still will, but man alive am i happy to be home, even happy to be back at work already! i keep saying 'geez tracey you were only gone for 2 weeks. shut up already' but i just gotta get it out of my system! i promise this is it.
a clothes line in Taiping a clean flushing seat toilet hoorah for modern plumbing! on the first night we got there, our hotel room's toilets weren't in working order - they didn't flush. at that point, after travelling all day, i didn't care but later in the trip a flushing toilet seemed to be like a fictional beast that you only hear about in passed down stories from your grandparents.
carpet i never thought i would miss it, but when we got back i couldn't stop touching it :P ok, that sounds dirty
alone time sure, it's a holiday and you have to see your relatives and all that - but Regan and i didn't have any alone time - not even on our anniversary :P plus, i like doing things on my own in Sydney, it was weird to have someone following me everywhere (dad, Regan, one of the millions of cousins, one of the thousands of aunties, the salespeople at every shop, a bathroom attendant, hawkers). our 2nd wedding anniversary was spent in a car full of people travelling from places all day - before we left for the trip we knew we wouldn't have time together anyway but it would of been nice ...
'tracey you must eat something' one thing i hate the most on any regular normal day, is people telling me i don't eat enough and then rolling their eyes at me when i say i'm fine. eating with relatives was a total nightmare in malaysia. i tend to eat smaller meals than my family, and i think i know when i'm full better than anyone else but according to them, i'm a freak because i don't eat 10 bowls of rice or noodles or something else weird every 4 hours.
Regan could tell it was pretty full on for me and came to my rescue by eating my share, which i think, lead to his own stomach problems on the trip. coincedentally, we're both down to our lowest weights ever (unintentionally. we don't own a scale and don't seek out one). i think i'm down to 49kgs now, Regan's about 55kgs - which gives us another excuse for that second pizza we tend to order.
being sick while travelling sucks i was feeling 'off' a week or so before we left for the trip, was REALLY sick while we were there, and i'm still not feeling the best today. i won't detail it - but in KL, i was probably feeling the worst i had ever been in about 15 years. i thought my dad and Regan didn't know where i was (i had to quickly stagger to the nearest bathroom on my own) and was going to have to live in the smelly bathroom from now on. we had a 3 hr drive back up to Taiping that day too, and i was concerned with ruining my uncle's van.
i did see a doctor yesterday after i was sick again on monday, took a blood test but she told me it's
migraines apparently. i didn't think my 'headaches' were that bad but all the symptoms are there and mum has a history of them. i thought it was dehydration or heat exhaustion, either way i need more fluids, meds and rest which i'm getting now. if there's anything up with the blood test, i think she said she'd call me or i call her, saturday.
so that's my 'problems' up to speed - i've only just started going through my digital photos, alot of them i'm not happy with but as long as they've captured the memory i'll be fine with them. can't expect an album of masterpieces when you're carrying around extra sick bags and a change of clothes and riding a wave of motion sickness .... haha!
ahh that's better. if you can't vent on your own blog, then why have one to begin with!

just reading this made me think: "You sure you didn't just stay with my family OS?". My poor mother used to get dirty looks from passers by who thought she was starving her children to death :-D I hope you recover soon, so that we can see more of your happy snaps :-)

headaches, nausea and general unwell feelings? yup, migraines. My sister inlaw gets them and the put her in bed for a good week at a time. They suck, but these days there are a lot more doctors can do for you. Take care of yourself, keep hydrated. -amy

Awww, I'm sorry to hear that! When I went to China with my family, my sister-in-law made us all take some stomach medicine to line our stomach because people who travel commonly get sick because of the bateria in the air and water are different than what we are used to at home (and are immune to). Plus all the traveling! I remember carrying bags that weight a billion tons and running because we were going to miss customs and check-in.
Pssst. My new website works now! :D

Carpet! It has to be the most digusting thing ever invented.
55KGS! That's dangerously thin. He didn't recently escape from jail? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/4627392.stm
