Origin. JPG.

If you've been a part of the photoblogging community, at any time in the past 5 years, you will know Heather and Derek.

Heather Champ and Derek Powazek, who in my eyes, are two of the pioneers of photography on the internet and are a constant source of inspiration and creativity for hundreds, if not thousands of people around the world.

When I received an email from them in 2004 about their newest creation, JPG Magazine, there was no doubt I wanted to be a part of their dream. I was excited to be involved with people who truly loved photography and the spirit of community and sharing, and I am still proud to this day to tell people I was in the first issue, Origin (and on the cover, no less!).

It was with this passion that I kept supporting Heather, Derek and JPG over the next issues, and would wholeheartedly keep it up as long as they keep up with the great work too. It was exciting to see their work and themselves in an amazing publication, but more importantly to see their dream realised together.

Sadly, their involvement with the magazine is no longer, and as their friend and someone who still believes in the spirit of the photography community and it's origin, my involvement will cease here also.

I am not doing this to be melodramatic, but to make a point to myself, that when you believe in someone and something, that you follow it through to the very end. And if the end comes quicker than you think, that you are able to see where you came from and what YOU want to do next. Don't let anyone else make up your mind or your heart for you.

We all have an end, but we all have a beginning.
Take me back to the start, Heather & Derek. I'm ready for whatever you've got planned.

JPG Magazine - Issues One to Six are still at Lulu.
Check them out if you can because Paul sure doesn't want you to.
