Spending time outside in the garden has been a welcome change to playing indoors lately. I’ve never been a green thumb, but now that we have 2 little kids running around, planting vegetables and flowers is our new hobby to do together as a family!
So far, we’ve successfully planted strawberries, basil, tomatoes and Californian Poppies and I’m itching to plant more
Yates have a great section on their website dedicated to gardening for kids. Garden Greenies is a fun interactive & informative website that has plenty of things to see and do. There’s easy step by step instructions for planting sunflowers, how to make a compost and they even show you how to grow your own carrots!

Garden Greenies also have colouring in sheets for you to download and print and a garden greenie quiz for the kids to take.
If you haven’t started planting during the spring, it’s a great time to pop into your local garden centre and pick up a few basic supplies. Growing and maintaining simple things like flowers or herbs is a great way to spend time with the kids and teach them how to care for something over a period of time (before you get that first pet!).
