It is so important to encourage our little ones to learn and to be interesting in learning. I truly believe that giving them those skills to be inquisitive and ‘okay’ with learning a new skill will help them during their school years. To not be afraid or too bored of education, so they will continually build a good foundation of knowledge.
Yes, I’m a little coo-coo for early learning, but understandably as my now-5 year old moves into his first year of primary school and becomes mummy’s little kindergartner next year! He’s worked really heard with our speech therapist in the past few months and we’re learning new tricks into getting him to expand his literacy skills. There is a real treasure trove of literacy games out there that are designed to bring out those skills that need to be nutured a bit more.
Entropy is an online store that specialises in educational toys and games, aswell as wooden toys and children’s craft kits. I recently placed an early Christmas order for a few literacy games and thought I would share my recommendations to you today

one. Ravensburger – Spell It Out Game $19.95
The self-correcting puzzle pieces show whether the words have been put together correctly. I like that this doubles as a picture puzzle for the younger kids, and a spelling puzzle for the older kids. Recognising words and how they are spelt is a great skill to start with when introducing spelling.
two. Learning to Read – Sight Words $24.95
When they’re a little more confident with spelling, you can use these flash cards as Sight Cards and develop their visual discrimination skills.
three. Ravensburger – Tell A Story Game $29.95
Another 2 games in 1 literacy game – first you play a game of memory to find all your story’s cards. Once you have your cards, you can use your imagination to tell a story that you see in the pictures. We use these cards in speech therapy and love them!
Entropy have so many more literacy games, aswell as numeracy and visual motor skill games. Please check out their website and order your Christmas presents today
