on being glutened

Posted on July 3rd, 2009 by Tracey

back on gluten ..

so a couple of weeks ago i had a few allergy elimination sessions to try and get rid of my gluten intolerance… (note, i am NOT coeliac).

this cookie was my first taste of gluten (wheat) in about 4 years.

i’m cautious to say whether or not it has worked, hence why i haven’t blogged about it yet. but 2 weeks on, i’m slowly introducing small things, with wheat in it, into my diet and you know what.. i don’t feel as bad as i used too!

time will tell, i guess.

for the meantime, i’m going to take it easy – the aim of the elimination sessions was so i would be able to share a meal (or a bite of something) with my loved ones, without having to ask to see the ingredients label, then ultimately spending the night in the bathroom and suffering panic attacks for the rest of the month.

if i can do that, then i deem it successful 🙂
if it happens that i can’t do that, i can’t eat gluten for the rest of my life, well life will go on, won’t it? 😉 if i didn’t at least give this a go, i would regret it.

what’s better than one lemon meringue?

what's better than a lemon meringue?

TWO lemon meringues.

let’s face it – i have a sweet tooth, so i have no excuse for making a lemon meringue other than I WANTED ONE, lol.

but this time i made one for my mum too 🙂

gluten free, not gluten free

last week, i was SO looking forward to getting into the kitchen again and baking some cool brownies. i picked up all the ingredients on saturday morning and got baking!

Melinda’s has added to their new gluten free premix range – including Choc Fudge Brownies (so good!) – so i whipped up a batch of them — and then proceeded to coat it in chocolate. chocolate that had gluten in it. oh bugger.

i *did* lick the spoon, and had a minor reaction to it the next day (sore throat) – and you think i’d be angry because i couldn’t eat my own delicious goodies, but actually i had a good time baking them and then packaging it up for my family instead.

at least it made someone happy! 🙂
