
define('DISABLE_WP_CRON', true);{"id":1276,"date":"2009-02-27T12:56:09","date_gmt":"2009-02-27T01:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sh1ft.org\/blog\/?p=1276"},"modified":"2009-02-27T12:56:09","modified_gmt":"2009-02-27T01:56:09","slug":"bringing-up-baby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sh1ft.org\/blog\/1276\/","title":{"rendered":"bringing up baby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>there&#8217;s been a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/tv\/guide\/netw\/200902\/programs\/ZY9561A002D26022009T203000.htm\">controversial series on the tele<\/a> about 3 different methods of bringing up your baby. <\/p>\n<p><em>Bringing Up Baby takes the guiding principles of three of last century&#8217;s most influential childcare manuals &#8211; Dr Truby King&#8217;s 1913 book Feeding and Care of Baby, Dr Benjamin Spock&#8217;s Baby and Child Care and Jean Liedloff&#8217;s 1975 The Continuum Concept &#8211; and observes six families as they put into practice their chosen method for the first few months of their babies&#8217; lives.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>i&#8217;ve been watching, through cringing eyes and a sad heart. while i think help is good and guidance is fine, i&#8217;m a true believer on instinct, even as a new mum. following a book was just not for me. it&#8217;s great to have one around to consult (e.g. I have The Wonder Weeks, which is great to open my mind as to what <em>could <\/em>be going on), but i could never put my babies outside in the cold by themselves for hours while i enjoy a glass of wine, just because a book told me to. i could never NOT cuddle and kiss and spend time with my newborn, just because a book told me to. i certainly do not think my baby is manipulating me and is an attention seeker when she vomits or cries. what the? <\/p>\n<p>like i said, we won&#8217;t know everything about how to raise a baby whether we&#8217;ve done it before or not, and i know they&#8217;re doing this for the sake of the tv program. it&#8217;s an interesting series, no doubt. but to see those new parents get beat down is distressing and seeing those babies go without a cuddle, just sucks :\/<\/p>\n<p>have you seen Bringing Up Baby? <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>there&#8217;s been a controversial series on the tele about 3 different methods of bringing up your baby.
