there’s been a controversial series on the tele<\/a> about 3 different methods of bringing up your baby. <\/p>\n

Bringing Up Baby takes the guiding principles of three of last century’s most influential childcare manuals – Dr Truby King’s 1913 book Feeding and Care of Baby, Dr Benjamin Spock’s Baby and Child Care and Jean Liedloff’s 1975 The Continuum Concept – and observes six families as they put into practice their chosen method for the first few months of their babies’ lives.<\/em><\/p>\n

i’ve been watching, through cringing eyes and a sad heart. while i think help is good and guidance is fine, i’m a true believer on instinct, even as a new mum. following a book was just not for me. it’s great to have one around to consult (e.g. I have The Wonder Weeks, which is great to open my mind as to what could <\/em>be going on), but i could never put my babies outside in the cold by themselves for hours while i enjoy a glass of wine, just because a book told me to. i could never NOT cuddle and kiss and spend time with my newborn, just because a book told me to. i certainly do not think my baby is manipulating me and is an attention seeker when she vomits or cries. what the? <\/p>\n

like i said, we won’t know everything about how to raise a baby whether we’ve done it before or not, and i know they’re doing this for the sake of the tv program. it’s an interesting series, no doubt. but to see those new parents get beat down is distressing and seeing those babies go without a cuddle, just sucks :\/<\/p>\n
