Ribena - gluten free!
Good news, Ribena fans! Ribena is gluten free. According to the Ribena UK website -
Ribena juice drinks are gluten-free and suitable for individuals with coeliac disease. Some of the juice drinks contain glucose fructose syrup (from wheat or maize). However, the European Food Safety Authority* advises that wheat-based glucose syrups are gluten-free** and as such are unlikely to cause an adverse reaction in individuals with coeliac disease. *Opinion of the Scientific Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies (adopted on 19 October 2004). **provided that the provisional value of gluten considered by Codex Alimentarius for foods rendered gluten-free (currently 200mg/kg) is not exceeded. www.ribena.co.uk/accessible/faq/index.html#15 Of course, if you are still worried about the glucose fructose levels, then best to avoid Ribena and/or read all labels before you try it.
