ok, you've got to calm down

a weird 'altercation' today.. i was out at hmv waiting for Regan after work, and kelly clarkson happened to be doing an instore. not being a big fan, i walked downstairs and took a couple of wide shots (which aren't worth posting btw) and on the way out i stood on the stairs and took another shot.

out of the blue, the security men (yep 2 of them) started to yell at me 'stop! stop! no photo! don't take photos! get out of here!'. holy moly i was taken aback. just as they were saying all that, i was pointing out into the crowd where at least a dozen flashes were going off, saying 'people in there are taking photos' but apparently that doesn't matter!

anyway, i appreciate that they've got a job to do - but i would of stopped if they had just said 'no photos allowed thanks'. pretty sucky that they had to both pick on me and follow me out of the store.

sheesh.

Yea, that happened to me when I was tyring to take pictures of Cece Winans and no one said anything about no pictures. No yelling needed or required.

yep, some security guards get a bit power hungry. Wish I had a $1 for everytime the same has happened to me, I would have enough money for a D-SLR by now :)

Last Sunday after I ran into you in the city I was hassled by security guards at 4 different locations in a 1 1/2 hour period.

This is becoming a trend. Every little whiny f* thinks its trendy to assalt verbally/phisically photogs. Keeps happening to me all the time, when shooting on the street. I tried to be polite at first, explain that the street is as much mine as it is theirs and that I can photos of whatever I wish and that I don't own them diddly-squat until I sell a photo w/ a "recognizable" image of them etc etc. But that does not work well w/ a lot of people, so it best to tell them to get lost and/or call the cops.

Anyways, unless this was taking place inside HMV, itself, they had absolutely no right telling you to stop taking photos. And even if you were they can't take away your film/memory card.

i was taking a photo last week of carol mosely braun's announcement speech (she wants to be nominated to run for president http://www.carolforpresident.com/ like that'll happen... ) on campus. i was standing outside the building and lining up to shoot everyone's applause through a wall composed entirely of glass (very fishbowl :)) when this large security guy started running towards me and yelling (YELLING) at me, getting right in my face, totally invading my personal space. he was so pissed! it was after dark, and i was talking on my cellphone the whole time, and i had abandoned my backpack several yards away, so i guess i looked extra suspicious, but still... i reacted the same way, pointing out that five major newscameras and numerous flashbulbs were going off inside the room, but that only started him yelling at me to leave the area immediately. bastard. if i hadn't been in the middle of a conversation on my cellphone at the time i might have made more of an issue. next time i think i'll be in insistent little photo geek just to make a point with these thugs that they can't push us around like this. damn 9/11 backlash. we must do our bit to restore common sense before the chest-thumping gets out of control. photologgers unite!
