ch-ch-ch-changessss
not exactly change.. but as close to it as i can get these days
the past few months, and the next few months to come, have been and will be life changing for me. i've moved out of home, i'm getting married and now, i'm thinking of changing jobs (and careers).
at 22, i've already worked full time for 3 years as a webdeveloper. i still love it, and i want to keep going full time with it for at least another 6-8 months. however, i think that Regan and i have this chance to start things afresh if we need too.
so, as part of my whole 'growing' process, i've enrolled back into college to study for my diploma in freelance photography! i've been putting it off for a good full year now because things are just so hectic but i figure that if i wanted to change jobs, or go part time with something - photography would be it. the coolest part of the course is that when i graduate, i will be part of the australian media and would have more access to events (concerts, sports etc.) and it will help me expand my skills and portfolio.
if you know me, i'm pretty darn excited about the whole thing! photography is something that i love, just like web and graphic design - so i think getting to work in the field would be amazing. i already work my dream job, working 2 dream jobs would be incredible!
apart from all the dreaminess, what i really want to do is learn. yeah, you don't need to take a course to 'know' how to be a photographer but i think sometimes i overlook the technicalities and the reasoning behind things. i've taken thousands of photos in the past 2-3 years, but whether they are commercially good is another thing and whether i can improve on anything is something that i want to find out.
in another photography news, this past week my brother has taken the digital camera, so no new photos to post up at shutterbug. my dad called from malaysia this morning and asked whether i wanted a canon 10D. my answer? hell yes. muahahahhaaa
World Toy Camera Day is October 25. Connect 8 finishes tommorrow! I managed to complete 3 Hoya Filters Catalogue has been keeping me visually entertained This is a Magazine is quite cool too!

I find that it is really hard to shift gears and go in a different direction in life. That being said, it is the greatest thing to be able to adjust your life as you grow and find new interests. Anyone who is unable to do this will suffer a miserable life. Follow your heart...

Hey is this the correspondence course with ACJ at Bondi? I'm also doing that! all the best with it though. I think you can really make it out there with your talent in photography.

I agree that you don't necessarily need classes to become a photographer (you either have an eye for it or you don't - which you definitely do) BUT taking the classes will give you more "tools" to use in your pursuit of improving as a photographer. Best of luck to you. Also, I'm so envious!

Now-a-days you have to pursuit yoru passion to be happy. I was unhappy of my corporate job and took 5 years after college to understand what I wanted to do when I grow up. Going back to photography school is definately a huge change in how I look at a photograph now.
I can't rely on photoshop and when you're in a dark room printing one photo for 4 hours, it gets frustrating fast. But the final results is that you can duplicate and learn from it and repeat it in less time next time.
I love my Canon 10D, but if you get it you'll have to let it sit while you go to classes. The weekly assignments do not allow me time to take many pictures with my DSLR.
Good Luck.

wow! hi everyone! :D
i'll answer your questions one at a time .. starting from the bottom
santosh .. no way i'll forget this place!
stephanie .. the camera is a polaroid land camera. i have 2 now! and they're awesome to use. fun fun fun.
mona .. actually we're allowed to use a dSLR because there's no darkroom tutorial. i'm actually still really happy with my current career, so this is just an add on
james m .. thanks :) i hope i'll get a little, if any, more experience with photography and the 10D couldn't hurt!
Tracy .. yeep! we should compare notes muahahahaaa
The Observationist .. thanks so much for your words. i definately think that if you can do something you love as a job, then do it! it'll only make your days happier
bre .. yesss!
sarah .. thank you :)
*esther .. i know! my dad is awesome. i just gave him a piece of paper with 'canon 10D' written on it the day before he left, and he goes and finds it straight away!
susan .. see now i can be all cool and make star trails like you :D i'm excited! i even had a dream about it haha
