lost in translation
darling harbour is a great family day out destination, and on a day like today hundreds of people crowded around the harbour in the sunshine. much like those families, Regan and i took my parents down for some icecream after lunch and to see what was going on. i think most people got more than what they were after on a sunday afternoon ...
these kids put on brave faces infront of a crowd that probably didn't "get them" much. dancing japanese students, singing and trying to get the crowd into joining in on their cutesy weird aerobics styles. they had some pep and were mildly entertaining the crowd with their b-boy moves, their cute costumes and high pitched voices; so we stuck around while we enjoyed our vanilla icecreams.
then came
that song, a song that made more than half the crowd of young children and their parents leave. a song that these kids probably didn't know what the lyrics actually meant but liked the beat and just wanted to dance. a song that made me regret not having a video camera, because it was
weird and a tad offensive in the gentle sunday afternoon sun with your parents and bunches of little kids wondering what 'that word' meant.
the song?
straight outta compton by nwa.
i gotta give them credit though, their were innocently sweet handing out little origami cranes they made for the crowd. i just wanted to shoot the person who picked their music ...
