there are a few things i'm obsessed about, and i thought it would be a good opportunity to blog about it since i'm on a NaBloPoMo kick
the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to obsessions, is architecture and residential floor plans. i can't help it. for me, there is something about a great layout, a beautiful exterior and an interior to match. i love a minimalistic garden, areas that work, and features that compliment the environment. i'm like a kid in a candy store when we roam around any home world. i adore dreaming about what goes where, and how to make space work for the person using it. it's not really about interior decorating, more about room placement and design.
my favourites (this could get long) -
i know i could never be a real architect, and that i'm nowhere near understanding how architecture actually works. but i can still appreciate the beauty of
home.
it started when i was a kid - probably around 8 or 9 - when i started to sketch out house floor plans and then it progressed to full town plans (right down to where the library is). it hasn't stopped since then, and to this day i'll carry around a notebook and a pen so i can sketch when i have an idea or if i'm bored.

this year i've been getting to know prefabricated housing, and environmentally friendly designed houses. i lean towards modern and clean, woods & greys, hidden gardens and water features. lots of light, cosy libraries, sound proof recording studios, walk in wardrobes, cross ventilation and solar power. australia doesn't have alot of green architects, as far as i know, but i'm more than happy to hear from you if you know of any!
i'm just as interested in apartments and townhouses, as i am in houses, though nothing 'in the sky' with hundreds of people in the same building. the appeal of an apartment for me is the city, which i love. i'll always want to be around the noise and light that the city provides. i love the apartment we own now, but i'm always dreaming bigger.
i have a small army of books including japan houses, lofts and a pocketful of houses, aswell as printouts from the internet that i keep close by. all these bits and pieces to inspire me as the years go on.
my ultimate goal from this obsession? to design and build our dream home, which is tough because Regan and I have different tastes when it comes to decorating, but i'll make it
our home.
