hay fever is scary

for the past few days my hay fever is showing up in the morning and getting annoying

so i went to the chemist, spoke to the pharmacist about safe hay fever remedies for pregnant women and bought a nasal spray.

i should be basking in hay fever free goodness but there’s one small issue…. i’m afraid of nasal sprays 😛 the spray bit is pretty forceful!! i just know it’s going to spout of my eye sockets

oh dear. how old am i? 😛

You can try salt-water drops in your nose. Just don’t snort it. 🙂

Are you allergic to honey? My midwife suggested that I eat locally-harvested honey during hayfever season to help keep the buggies at bay. Honey from local bees helps to immunize you from the pollen flying around your neighborhood. I take Zyrtec (don’t know what it’s called in Oz but it’s supposed to be safe for pg. At least that’s what my doc assured me & he knew I was TTC). I suffer from hayfever year-round, so I feel your pain. 🙁

Another great help for me is hypo-allergenic pillows, dye-free/fragrance-free soaps (laundry, dish and body) and clean bed linens. Also, wash your face several times throughout the day (I’m sure you already wash your hands 1000x a day with a toddler around). Pollen sticks to your skin! (who knew?) I’m known to carry a cool face cloth around with me and wipe down my eyes and nose/mouth with plain old water to stave off the buggies.

If you get sore/itchy throat like I do, you can gargle with salt water, or make a “tea” with apple-cider vinegar and a dash or two of cayenne pepper (as much as you can stand) sweetened with honey. I quite like it (now) but it’s not easy to get used to. (Apple-cider vinegar has the added benefit of taming your morning sickness, btw. 1 spoonful in a glass of water and sip at it first thing in the morning or throughout your most nauseous hour. Oh, PLUS if you can hack it, the ACV+cayenne combo is great throughout pg, esp your 3rd trimester. if you drink it every day you will bleed less postpartum. Look up “shock tea” if you’re interested.)

Sorry for the ginormous comment. >.<
