i find myself being hard on .. well myself. when i get a roll of film back, i flip through each one and immediately label them as either ‘good to post’ or ‘crap, forget that you took that’. i think if i continue thinking like that, the things i shoot won’t get a decent chance. on the other hand, it’s good to be critical of your own work right?

kane • February 25th, 2003 at 8:06 am If possible, I try to take more than one shot of what I’m taking a photo of, and then save the best of the lot. I agree it’s good to be critical of your own work, but sometimes I will post a photo that I think is cool, and then I don’t get a response, but photos I don’t particularly like are raved over. You just never know what others will like. 🙂

Elad • February 27th, 2003 at 7:43 am it’s totally acceptable to be Ultra critical of your own work. i bet your favorite author or musicians thinks the last thing they came up with sucks, and "coulda been better."
it’s called human nature. (ya know, shoulda, coulda, woulda), but there is a solution!

Distance! Take a shot, write a story, and then put it away. And don’t look at it or think about it or two weeks. go back to it and your first reaction will usaully be quite telling.
it seems to work for me.
