crafternoon: DIY chalkboard

I’ve been meaning to make this for a while – but for some reason, couldn’t find the chalkboard paint at Bunnings until this past weekend. we love our chalkboard decal so much, that i wanted to make a chalkboard for myself, to write big ass reminders or just play around with it whenever i had the chance.

so all i needed was that chalkboard paint (dulux brand was the only available, and about $20 for a 500ml can), a photo frame and a paint brush!

after giving the photo frame’s backing board a few coats, i let it dry in the warm sun and voila!

such an easy DIY project – i’ll definately experiment on different boards/backing as we go, the 500ml tin will last for ages since it’s such a small area and my sister has already requested one for her apartment…

I let Rodd talk me into doing a whole (small) wall during our kitchen renovation. I was worried it would be too dark, but I’m so glad we did it now. One tip I found online was to cover the whole wall in chalk and then wipe it off to “season” it. I couldn’t find any explanation of what it was meant to actually accomplish so maybe it’s voodoo, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt!

Also, I’ve seen “recipes” online for making it in other colours. It’s basically just paint mixed with tile grout…

I’d love to do a whole wall but the thought of all the chalk dust gets me, lol. I did see the colour-recipes but I like the traditional black/green the best :)
