newsletter: month one

my dear sweet baby J

4 weeks ago today, the most wonderful thing happened to your father and i. you arrived into this world, and we’ve never been happier.

introducing....

don’t get me wrong, we’ve always been very happy together as a couple but now that you’ve come into our lives, i understand what they say about the instant happiness and gratitude new parents feel when they look into their baby’s eyes for the first time, the second time, the third, the fourth…

carrying you for the 9 months was the greatest adventure and your birth day was the best day i’ve ever experienced. i would go through all of the ‘uncomfortable’ parts of it all, all over again if i had to. it’s been a positive journey for all of us, and i feel incredibly blessed to be your mum.

the past month has gone so fast, and i’m trying to take this all in while i still can. before you know it, you’ll be asking your dad for the keys to the car and getting secret tattoos. i’m so excited for what our future holds together as a family, but at the same time i want to cherish this delicious newborn stage.

everywhere we’ve been, people always comment on what a lovely baby you are. you hardly cry or fuss, and you’re a terrific sleeper (bless you for that). we’re still trying to figure out who you look like more – your father or i, but i guess we have alot of time to see who’s right. you have big beautiful eyes that started out a dark blue, but now look like a brown. your hair is coming in slowly – dark brown with some lighter highlights. you have big feet like your daddy, and your button nose looks like mine. you actually look alot like your father when he was a baby, but sometimes you’ll pull a face and suddenly you look like me.

proud mama

in the past couple of weeks, you’ve started to coo and make talking sounds. i’ve seen some really gorgeous smiles out of you, and sometimes i swear you are giggling! you make these beautiful high pitched ‘boop’ noises that leave a huge goofy grin on your face and make my heart skip a beat. you can lift your head up and look around a bit, as if you were a turtle poking your head out of your shell. (i used to always call your dad a turtle because he loves to wear green, so i know where your turtle-ness comes from!)

i’m really enjoying the time i have with you alone – even the early morning feeds are a joy to do because i get to spend that little extra time with you. you love sitting in the sling i made while i was pregnant with you, and i love having you so close.

your grandpa is always at the ready to scoop you up and play you songs on the guitar (which you love). your aunty hayley is mesmirised by you – and still can’t believe your here! your uncle gavin, i think, is a little stunned that you’re really here too. your grandma cannot seem to be apart from you for more than one day. you talk to your grandma in america over the webcam every week now and she loves seeing and hearing all about you! next weekend, you will be welcomed by your extended family – aunties and uncles, grand-aunties and grand-uncles, and maybe even some grand-cousins i think.

4 weeks old today

your father and i feel so so lucky to have you in our lives. we could not of dreamed for a better baby, or a lovelier son. i’m not sure what we did to have it so good, but i’ll spend my life enjoying it without hesitation.

i cannot wait to see what’s instore for us next ..

love mum x

Tracey ! I am so happy to see that you’re doing monthly newsletters (it reminds me of heather from dooce). Someday when I have a child, I’ll do my best to do it too, it seems like such an amazing gift for your son 😀

Those are the most adorable pictures I’ve ever seen! I’m having my son in January, and reading your post and looking at those photos just made me even more excited <3
