did someone order a heatwave?

Posted on October 15th, 2006 by Tracey

pretty stinking hot on Friday and Saturday – thank god for a cooler, rainer Sunday!!!!!

Regan and I knew it would be hot Friday/Saturday, so we escaped to my parent’s house because it’s all airconditioned and we wouldn’t melt like popsicles in our tiny apartment… the cool air was much appreciated 8am saturday morning when it felt like i’d left the oven on all night.

one thing I noticed that was tough, because I didn’t want to cook while we were there (for 2 days), that there wasn’t alot of gluten free food in the area. there’s some suspicious sushi in a foodcourt nearby and mcdonald’s 1 gluten free item – a salad, and that’s about it. i ended up with a salad for dinner, and salad at sumo salad for breakfast the next day. the sydian curried pumpkin thingos weren’t very good because i didn’t have any sauces to go with 🙁 can’t complain, next time i’ll pack more things to bring with me, even if it’s for 2 days away. (oh, and NEVER eat any creamy dairy goodness no matter how tempting it is – i need to remember i’m lactose intolerant too!!!) i think outback steakhouse has a gluten free menu, i might have to check that out next time.

for the past couple of weeks i’ve been training myself to keep drinking water. my standard was 2 cups but i’ve been really dehydrated lately, so it’s more of a personal goal to get up to 5-6 cups asap. i’ve made it a game that if i’m sitting in front of the tv, whenever a commercial comes on, i have 3 mouthfuls of water. or if i’m at work, and outlook automatically receives an email or i finish a phone call – i take a drink of water. i can do 4 cups now, my belly needs to stretch some more!!!

i’ve reworked my gluten free food blog a bit tonight. the older style is still up here but i wanted it to not look like a standard blog.. more like a website. i’ll leave it for a couple of weeks and see how it looks then

mum & dad have jumped off their cruise and are now headed back to the house in taiping (malaysia). i had a dream last night i went after them in new zealand (random?) just to tell them how hideous their kitchen is (it really is. the whole back of the oven has fallen off and the door has no springs) and they need to renovate it as soon as they got back. hint hint mum.

not long before my family gets back from their seperate adventures overseas – gavin gets back from europe in 2 weeks, mum gets back a few days after, dad returns a few weeks after that and hayley comes back in early december! hooray! we haven’t been altogether for over a year, i miss having yum cha with the all, even if i’m just sitting there enjoying the conversation …

watch me

billy's 30thin my everending search for the perfect, cheap ass camera – i came across the rollei prego. while it didn’t cost me more than $50, it looked like a million bucks when i got it in the post 😀 i really adore the panorama function and that it kinda looks like a movie still, so expect me to shoot the crap out of that (excuse my excellent use of words). i know i could do it digitally, but that’s cheating and i feel adventurous this time of the year.

the weekend was short but relaxing – billy’s 30th birthday bbq on saturday afternoon! the rest of the night i was in some sort of dehydrated-funk which was a godsend in a way since it made me stay indoors and rest. sunday i trodded off to my parents house, they’re o/s at the moment so i was there to make sure that the 50 million fish they keep were OK (they were). it was creepy to be at the house on my own & the wind was making the house creek and groan .. i didn’t stay very long.

what’s a long weekend without a little stomach cramping

apart from the last 18 hours or so, i had a great long weekend! it’s always a nice feeling when you have a few days in a row to do whatever you want 🙂

i got hungrysaturday was the gluten free expo which was so fun to attend. i managed to buy a small selection of new mixes and biscuits to munch on over the next few weeks. i’m glad i went early, because by the time i left the place was packed with people and i kept knocking into them with one of my huge bags full of cookies. (sorrry). i know you can find gluten free food in the fruit & veg aisle of the supermarket, but a girl’s gotta spice it up every now and then. (unfortunately, i think this ‘spicing’ has given me the worse bout of stomach cramps i’ve had lately. i think i’ve figured it out though ..)

watched the afl grand final, which is unusual for me since i don’t follow sports. was a great game though, the better team on the day won so i’m not bitter 😉

later that night, i caught up with some friends – Prasangi is now 7 months along and looking great! it was cool to see Aislin again after her 6 month stint in the UK, working. her wedding is in 2 months, so december will be busy for them both.

agat18k_moonfestivalsunday, we spent it with my parents – who are leaving to go to malaysia again tommorrow. dad took us over to the cabramatta moon festival for a walk around. it was realllly hot when we arrived, but i had a good time walking through and seeing what had changed since the last time i was there (maybe 3-4 years ago?). Mischa had stayed at the house with mum and got haircut, as she does every week. spoke to my lovely sister Hayley who will be home in 2 months!

managed to get 2 rolls of film shot and developed. the new camera worked out great in the end, even though i had major troubles with the first 2 rolls i had put through it. i’ve been so interested in cheaper film cameras lately, just wait for the new one coming soon …

yesterday i finally got around to throwing out all the food i’m not supposed to have around – flour, cereals, sauces that all have wheat or yeast in it. we were thinking of getting the kitchen upgraded for more space, but i don’t think we need to do that anymore! lol.

i’ve spent most of last night up watching oprah and passions, trying to take my mind off the pain so i’m pretty tired this morning. i’ll be OK though, like i said before, i think i know what’s going on so i’m not worried. just sleepy. i’ll tell you one thing though, thank god it’s already tuesday.
