newsletter: month five

Posted on April 2nd, 2008 by Tracey

my dearest sweetie pie buttons,

loving someone has never been easier than it is to love you.

i don’t think i can express how much we love you – and how that love grows with every sunrise and sunset. it’s an amazing thing to see you grow from a newborn baby into a little boy, all the new things you pick up and even the things we see every day.

you bring joy to our lives in ways i couldn’t of imagined. i wish everyone gets the chance to experience such a feeling, it’s what life is all about.

you started off this month as your normal gooey self – hand chewing, saliva slobbery you.

jasper was here

you still adore your tummy time – often wanting to be on the floor for hours at a time (though you should be napping!) so you can practice your baby push ups and rolling skills. you’re on your way to crawling – although we can only really describe it as ‘face planting’ at the moment. we start you off at one end of your play mat, and a minute later you’re way up the other end (sometimes even all the way on the other side of the room!). sometimes i look for a baby skateboard or pulley system to check whether you’re cheating, but nope – you’re doing it all on your own 🙂

you love flying around with your daddy and anyone else who dares to lift you into the air – your saliva bombs are notorious for landing in our eyes and mouths.. there’s this lovely giggle you let out when you’re on the way down from your flight – i can’t describe it but it’s best illustrated with this photo …

the joy in your face is addictive – we do everything we can do hear that cackle from you. and that cackle, boy is it infectious!! if i can hear you from another room, i’ll start laughing myself – you love to laugh, and i love to hear it 🙂

you’ve continued your vocal exploration with a high pitch range –

in the past week, you’ve started to teeth pretty uncomfortably. you’ve been pre-teething for about 3with months now, but your bottom two teeth (and i think the top two aswell) are making an appearance and you’ve been a wee bit clingy (not that i mind at all!!!). we’re back to 2-5am wake ups during the night, sometimes 3 times a night. you’ve got flushed little cheeks and have had a bit of a temperature. you find comfort in chewing our fingers, which gives us a chance to feel around in there. i haven’t got a clear photo of them yet, but they’re sprouting! i’m pretty excited for you – you’re growing up so fast, it’s so wonderful to see 🙂

if teething wasn’t a big milestone, you’ve started to sit on your own too 🙂 just for a few seconds at first, but you’re getting stronger and we’re following your lead. it’s so amazing (there’s that word again!) to see you sit up on your own, it blows my mind to see you do things without our help – you’re not little bitty baby anymore, though you’ll always be my baby boy

duckie jimmy jams!

love, your mama xx

poor bub

yes we’re still here – we’re currently experiencing some teething so we’re all a bit tired and/or sore. poor little Jasper has been pre-teething for a couple of months but the past week or so it’s getting worse – waking up in the middle of the night (or, like last night, waking up 4 times a night), slobbering like nobody’s business, mumbling and bumbling like his gums are on fire, moaning for hours, chomping on mummy and daddy’s fingers and leaving teeth marks.

his bottom two teeth are coming in slowly, we can feel them cutting through. it’s gone from a gummy munch munch to a definate squirrel knaw – the poor little critter.

we’ve got the teething toys (cold and otherwise), teething gel and baby panadol – i hope he gets a break from it for a few days because i hate seeing J like this. he’s still a giggly happy boy but the other 80% of his day is getting uncomfortable for him, i can tell…

newsletter: month four

Posted on March 2nd, 2008 by Tracey

my dearest baby J, today you turned four months old! again, time is going by so quickly – in one instance i want time to stop, but then again i can’t wait to see you grow.

you’re one cheeky monkey you are! since learning to roll from tummy to back to tummy again, we’ve had to keep a fixed eye on you. you’re trying to crawl a bit, mostly you spin yourself around in a circle but other times we can see you trying to propel your whole body forward (face first), your little legs bending and straightening as if you were jumping while laying on your stomach.

you’re still sleeping like a champ – though in the afternoons when you’re cranky, you seem to calm down from the sound of my voice. now, i don’t have the best voice, but if it makes you stop and smile then i’ll sing until my throat hurts (and i often do).

you’ve outgrown all your newborn clothes and moved up to size 0’s (though we can still squeeze you into some 00’s).

i’m finding it hard to judge just how many coverall onesies you need for winter, so i’ve bought about a billion and hope that you get some sort of use out of them. it’s getting a bit colder and we think you’ve got your first cold, which is lucky for you because they probably won’t give you your shots tomorrow as planned! (don’t worry, we’ll get you next week muahahahahaaa!!) (edited 3/3/08 to add – you got your shots! and you weigh 7.7kgs and are 67cms long currently 🙂 your daddy came with us this time, he said he was expecting worse, i think you were expecting treats)

your next chn (community health nurse) visit isn’t for another 2 weeks so i don’t know how much you weigh or how long you are at the moment – but judging by the teeny tiny newborn hats you used to wear, you’ve at least put on a little inulsation for winter 😉 alot of people have commented on how long you are – i point to your daddy who towers over us both like a skyscraper, and then they get it – you’re probably going to be a tall paul and i’ll be left here talking to your knees

my sweet JJ, you’re the delight of everyone who meets you – grandma and grandpa are furiously sending photographs and updates to your uncles, aunts and cousins overseas – everyone loved you in your chinese new year clothes! the collective sound of ‘awwww’ was deafening for a while, your dad nearly had to leave the room! you were born a golden pig in the last chinese new year, which is the same sign as your grandpa. if you’re anything like him, then i know you’ll be a great great man.

another holiday season is coming, which means more silly photos. i hope you don’t mind too much that i’ve dressed you up 3 times in the 4 months you’ve been with us. i promise i won’t use these photos to blackmail you later on in life, i’ll only show it at your 18th birthday celebrations, 21st and your wedding…. and when people come over… and when i sneeze.. or when it’s tuesdays.

1000in the past week or so, you’ve discovered your voice – much to your dad and i’s amusement! we’ve decided to call you ‘baby cockatoo’ because of the shrieking sound you’re making when you’re in flight (which is 95% of the day).

we wonder what you say all the time, and can’t wait to find out.

love, mum-mum-mum-mum-mum…. (you love it when i make that noise, do you still like it now?)
