I call this one – Mummy Goes To School.
They were making Christmas cards at Jovie’s playgroup today.. so while Jovie ran around screaming and crying (this is normal for her – she wasn’t hurt, hungry, tired or soiled – she just can’t be consoled sometimes), I got my craft skills on and decorated that piece of cardboard with the speed of a thousand monkeys.
That’s a SNOWMAN by the way, he may or may not of had a bird as a parent.
It’s been 3 months since our diagnosis of Jovie’s Autism & Developmental Delay, and we’ve come a little way along this long journey.
Just after her diagnosis, we applied for Jovie to go to a special child care centre which is due to open next April/May, we had the family interview a couple of weeks ago and last Friday I got the call that Jovie was accepted! It’s only for kids with Autism and alot of families applied for the limited spots available. She’s the youngest at the centre (at 2 and a half) but she’s been paired up with a little boy just older than her – how adorable.
I have been going back and forth about sending Jovie to child care while she’s still so limited in her communication and independence but I’ve gotta let her try, and let myself try.
I am still going to worry about her wherever she is, I’m going to wonder if her teacher is comforting her the way she needs or whether they understand what she is trying to say. Whether Jovie is able to form a good relationship with them, or whether they truly have the patience to ‘work’ with Jovie throughout her time there.
My bond with Jovie over these last few months has grown so much that I feel more attached to her than ever – it’s hard not to. But I guess that’s just a natural part of parenting.. right?
Yes! It’s another video! I told you I’m obsessed with iMovie – but getting an iPhone has really allowed me to be creative AND present when it comes to the kids. I love my Canon 550D but it’s so clunky to carry around everywhere….
Onto the video. Today was Jovie’s second & final occupational therapy assessment.
In the video, Jo is wearing kid sized headphones and listening to some calm music. Surprised she kept it on for as long as she did – she looked so cute 🙂
The session didn’t go as well as last week – I could tell she was tired and fed up within 15 minutes of getting there but we persevered as much as we could in the hour. I only shoot a few seconds of video at a time while I’m there, the rest of the time I’m partipating in the session. I got to go on the swing today! It was awesome but Jovie did not want and almost threw herself off it. A green teletubby toy saved the day but Jo wanted to leave so we ended it early today.

Poor baby girl.
We have a parent meeting in 2 weeks to discuss what the OT recommends. I think whatever she says, it’s going to be a tough road for all of us. I’m very aware that Jovie has her problems with communication (amongst other things) but I would go to the ends of the Earth to help my daughter so I’m just eager to get started.
