slow down, mama.

so yes, the dreaded flu hit me. again. i was feeling better, good enough to photograph the cute, 4 week old Lucas last week

newborn photography - lucas

(so adorable, i loved the session!)

but then the next day it hit me again, and this time much worse 🙁 usually i could probably just ride it out, but being pregnant means your body is always working overtime and your immune system is lower, so it’s been really tough to shake this virus without more antibiotics and forcing myself to rest

sick

i’m finding it REALLY HARD to rest, i’m a multitasker and i cannot sleep the day away… but i’ve had to keep reminding myself that if i don’t slow down now, i’m headed straight for the ER again because the next stop is pneumonia. my iron levels & blood pressure are also low, which means i’m out of breath most of the day, and yesterday at parent/teacher night i kept having to run out of the room because i felt like i was going to pass out (too stuffy, no air flow). yay pregnancy.

thankfully, the baby is doing great and Jovie (who also had the flu) is fully recovered. i just need a few more days of sitting on the couch, chicken soup, no computer (boo) and hot baths…. lucky for me, Regan is home for a few weeks before he starts his new job so he’s been helping out heaps. don’t know how i’d manage the school runs without him!

student photographer, again

as if being pregnant, having the flu (yes, again. it’s horrible but thankfully i’ve avoided pneumonia) and having 2 kids to take care of isn’t enough – my heart wants what it wants. and what it wants is to get back into photography again! specifically newborn photography – it combines my love of photography and BABIES. perfection.

this week i’ve started to get out my home studio gear and practice practice practice.

first-try

i don’t have the best model, but he will do until i get my hands on some freshly baked bubs. i still have a long way to go with handling the studio light the way i want it, but it’s ALOT of fun for me to play around for a few hours (yes hours) trying to get it right before i use real babies, lol.

it’s pretty exciting for me to have found something that i genuinely am excited to do. it doesn’t feel like work or study, it feels like discovering a part of my brain that was switched off for a little while.

i’ve had a long time fear of failure, a self doubting side of me that always questions everything – but i’m pretty sick of listening to myself beat myself down and it’s GO TIME, frankly. i mean, if something makes you happy – why stop yourself from doing it? life is too short, and too much fun.

i’m looking to practice with newborns (5-12 days old) until May (when i know i will be HUGE and tired), then pick it back up again as soon as this baby boy is born. if you’re in Sydney and are due to pop before May, get in touch!

Jasper’s First Day of School!

Jasper's First Day of School

I don’t know how it happened. How my baby boy is big enough, smart enough and confident enough to wave us goodbye at his classroom door, on his very first day of school.

I didn’t think I would cry, maybe it’s the pregnancy hormones combined with a lack of sleep but Regan held my hand as we walked back to the car and all I can think of is how proud I am of my son.
