Yep, weird huh? I had heard that Coles was going to add clothes to their supermarkets, I was skeptical… and curious. Coles has always been groceries only, maybe there might be an occassion where we needed to get a pair of socks but jeans, dresses, activewear or accessories? Definately not.
But wouldn’t you know it, 2 of our local Coles supermarkets have the new Mix apparel collection available to browse & purchase. I was popping in for another litre of milk (Jasper is milk drinking machine lately!), and a lovely girl out the front of Coles hands me a Mix catalog, a voucher and a free bag of candy. She’s hit all my weak spots – clothes, discounts and SUGAR.
I was surprised at the amount of stuff in their collection – and a few of the pieces did feel like good quality matched with a good price. It basically felt like a mini Kmart or Big W (though slightly nicer) right next to the canned foods aisle.

this is as close to me in a swimsuit you’ll ever see
I came away with the Polka Dot halter maillot which was only $25 – the Boardwalk dress ($29) was tempting and the Sleeveless tie front top ($15) was pretty cute too.
Anyway, if you’re curious like me, check it out. Being very money conscious right now, I definately would have a quick wizz around the Mix collection now and then, just in case …

Jasper and I were invited to meet one of my girlfriends and her 2 kids out for lunch today. somewhere that was nearby but i had never been before.
after dealing with the morning’s tantrums and finally getting into the car, I quickly check my Google Map while I still had Wi-Fi and noted that it should be one straight road with 2 simple turns to get there. easy. can’t go wrong.
we set off in one direction and all the traffic lights were green and there was hardly any traffic, perfect we’ll be there in no time.
we drove down the long winding straight road i saw on the map and enjoyed the scenery. then we enjoyed the scenery some more. and more. there seemed to be more and more cows & horses in paddocks and this road turned a little gravelly for my liking.
the night before i had watched the first episode of The One, where a group of psychics are dropped in the middle of the bush one by one, and they have to find the helicopter to take them out of there. suddenly i had a sense of deja vu – we’re lost, no map and it’s taken 20 minutes so far on this 5 minute trip to the pub.
the rain clouds were threatening to add another layer of doom, so instead of freaking out i turn up the radio and start looking around more carefully. we’ve taken a few different turns now so i have to trust my gut and go in the direction I think is right.
15 minutes down what HAS to be the longest back road ever, i spy the entrance to the pub but totally miss the entrance. i double back and shake my fist at Google Map for sending me to Woop Woop and back. the pub ends up being so close to our usual haunts that it’s not funny, but the whole adventure has been a good reminder to trust your gut and go with your instincts.
you might take a wrong turn here or there, but you will get there.
how’s your sense of direction?
and on a semi-related note, don’t miss this – Steve Jobs: How to live before you die. Love what you do… Keep looking, don’t settle. , if today was the last day of my life, would I want to do what I’m about to do today? And whenever the answer has been ‘no’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. and stay hungry, stay foolish. RIP Steve Jobs.

In the mail yesterday, we received Jovie’s full report from the Child Development Unit at Westmead Kid’s Hospital. A heartbreakingly honest assessment of Jovie’s current development, reading it is surprisingly harder than actually living it. Perhaps it’s because it’s all there in black and white, it’s very final and clinical and matter of fact – but we live with Autism 24/7/365 and all of this is just ‘normal’ to me.
But I’m very happy with the report, because it’s accurate and we have a good base report to start with. The only way is up, right?

for all the berets in paris …
