38 weeks!

… and oh, how I’m feeling it.

I don’t think bub has turned, because he’s still using my left rib cage as a foot stool & trampoline, but that’s okay because I can feel my body relaxing and surrendering to the inevitable last stages of pregnancy.

Wow, the last stages. These last days … Everything is going to change in a matter of a week or so, and the anticipation is so sweet!

I do feel bad that I’m slower and grumpier but I’m mindful that I’m near the end of another beautiful pregnancy and I have to slow it down.

I’m stuck into my hypnobirthing state of mind – I love to focus on what my body is doing, rather than fight against it. I could feel myself going down the route of panic, but being aware and being calm brings me back to the level of confidence I need to keep going. It’ll help now and it’ll help when I go into labour.

Look at me! I sound a little kooky but honestly, keep positive makes a world of difference whether you’re nine months pregnant or just going through a hard time x

Rett Syndrome Awareness, everyday

It happens alot, each time actually.

“Oh but she looks so normal!”

It’s part of the campaign to educate people about Rett Syndrome, and possibly other disorders and situations too. You just don’t know what someone is going through, what they live with, what they’re born with.

I don’t take offence to it, because people don’t mean it or know what they’re saying. But I use it as an opportunity to tell them about Jovie, get them to meet her and to go away with a little bit more knowledge about Rett Syndrome.

It’s harder when I’m at school picking up Jasper, and people will immediately compare their 4 year old with my 4 year old. Instead of making them feel bad, I want them to know that while we have our challenges, we’re doing okay and not to feel bad for us. Life isn’t about comparison (comparison is the thief of joy), but I would just want people to know that families like us exist.

we love, like you love.
we live, like you live.
don’t be afraid to say hello and ask questions. be gentle with it, and we’ll be gentle with you 😉

Jovie turns 4!

A bit of a belated birthday post…

My dearest baby girl Jovie turned 4 on May 21st, and I couldn’t be prouder of her.

This past year has been strange & good, last year on her 3rd birthday we were still waiting for the DNA results that would eventually diagnose her with Rett Syndrome. There was still alot of ‘what do we do’ moments because nothing had really settled, but a year on I think we have more of an idea of Jovie’s immediate future.

Jovie’s a much happier and settled little girl now, alot of personality and of course so so sweet. Of course Rett will always be present in her life, but I see her shining through all the time. With the baby due any day now, I know she anticipates the new arrival just as much as Jasper does. I cannot wait to see her be a big sister!!

It’s really comforting to see her become more social and affectionate over the past year, not so withdrawn and scared. She’s a brave girl, and I hope to see bloom further and further…
