life is too short

i keep hearing it. i keep reading it.

life is too short.

and i believe it. but maybe i truly don’t? if i did, i would of changed jobs by now. i’m pretty unhappy (to the point of tears) doing what i do now, but i stay because of the financial stability. what is the deal breaker between financial and emotional stability?

i’m torn because i want/need to be a mature adult – i have a child, i have a mortgage. i’m torn because my heart is just not in this anymore and i just cannot continue feeling this way about something that i do for 65% of my time.

i think my problem is lack of confidence. i just don’t have any anymore when it comes to a career/job/work. even with photography, i liked doing it but my confidence level was shot to pieces. i just don’t think i’m good enough. to do anything, really.

any advice? where do you get your confidence from? experience?

For me, confidence comes from those who are not seeking for it.

I enjoy your photos a lot and one advise is that you should have a break and take photos of things outside of your life.

The passion in life is knowing what you want to achieve and working towards it, learning in the process and giving you new confidence from accomplish work.

Hope this help.

I can’t say I have ever been that unhappy with my work, and it cant help confidence to feel like that. I would say that among the first steps to confidence is pretending to be confident. If you can trick yourself into it, you can end up convincing yourself. Can you reduce your working hours and use the time to build up your portfolio, and gain confidence in your photography again? You’re a great photographer, and I love looking at your pictures. I agree with Yong Fahjin, try exploring outside your home. The number of people on Flickr who love your work, and will support you when you take it further. I’ve just joined the community and my confidence in my own photography skill has been boosted 10 fold. How about taking a course locally?

I hope this helps, congratulations with everything you have achieved and good luck with everything you want.

OMG Tracey, can I just talk to you over the phone or something? What I would want to tell you would be FAR too long to write in here, and I just have so much to say, about confidence, about photography, about YOU in all this mix. Email me back if you can, and maybe I can just write you an email instead!

Tracey – I know where you are coming from unfortunately. I have the same feelings about work (but am managing them at the moment cause I work so infrequently).

Can’t offer you much advice but you know where I am if you ever want to chat/vent.

((hugs))
