an iphone alternative?

Regan and i are not Apple fans — i don’t know why, i just don’t like Apple LOL

but Hayley (my sister) recently was given an ipod touch as a present and since then i’ve been dreaming about having one of my own … eeeek!

the only thing that stops me from running out and buying one straight away is the fact that it doesn’t have a camera on it. i still stand by my oath that a CAMERA is a CAMERA and a PHONE is a PHONE and a COMPUTER is a COMPUTER, but you never know when you need to take a photo quickly (e.g. i’ll take a photo of something funny Jasper is doing and send it to Regan while he’s at work — i’m sure i’m going to do this more when there are 2 monkeys to look after!).

i suppose i could go for the iphone – but i don’t want a new phone, don’t need a new phone. i just want something that has wi-fi and at least a 2mp camera. i’d prefer a phone/handheld type thing rather than another laptop … again too clunky

can anyone point me in the right direction? i’ve read about the nokia n96 too, i suppose i could just not sign up for any phone plan?

I’ve tested out an iPhone last year. It’s a pretty good phone with very sensitive touch screen. I’ve tried HTC, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Nokia n96..nothing beats iPhone’s sensitivity & respond. With iPhone, you can capture pictures and directly write a post to your blog. So, that kinda gives you an instant access to the wordpress application. One thing that I am not happy with is the missing video capturing feature. There are applications that apparently can enable the video capturing feature…but that leads to the next downside.. battery life 🙁

So, if you wanna have access to your emails via wifi (basically a laptop on the go)…what about a blackberry?

I LOVE everything Apple but I don’t have an ipod touch or iphone. I have played with friend’s ones though and I think it’s absolutely great but it’s too overwhelming for me and I don’t need one, and I agree with you about the camera statement. I bring my camera everywhere (and would happily leave my phone at home) and could never see myself taking substandard photos on a mobile phone..

I love my Blackberry Curve for the reasons you’ve mentioned. I like to take quick camera shots and send them to friends and family, as well as Twitter and Flickr. You can also take little videos on them making sure you can always capture those fun moments. With my BB I have my email handy, and a web browser for looking up those need to know things.

Actually this weekend I used my phone to look up maps while we were traveling, numbers to the museums and theme parks, and to see who that girl was in that movie we watched. 🙂

Oh..I left out something. If you are not a mobile gadget person…iPhone is not something you would want to invest in. it has a lot of applications that you prolly won’t even use more than 50% of them…at least I didn’t find myself needing half of those

yay thanks for the comments so far — I really have NO CLUE as to what to look at. Blackberry, didn’t even consider it – will have a look tonight around the net

peky, yeah I think an iPhone would be a waste on me LOL

kat, how cool – I think you’re selling me on the BB

chamelledesigns, i know – i like my photos to be at least up to standard in quality 😛 but there are times where i do take a quick snap for my husband and send it to him straight away — just so he doesn’t miss out on Jasper’s antics. so anything 2MP is worth it 😉

I’m not familiar with Nintendo DSi and I had to go hit YouTube to look at it 😛 First impression – U’ve got to love Nintendo to buy this…and not for the camera & WiFi to get this toy 😛 hehe Somehow I’m not too impress with the image display (pixel, resolution & color)… Not sure about the quality of the images taken from the camera tho. Does it take video? I’m wonderin if it has an application or capability to send/attach the media files to emails after you have taken them. For one, you can’t be sending them via MMS (not sure if that’s what you call in Aussie)

Gosh Peky, I’m changing my mind 85,000 times a day!

I’m kinda leaning towards a prepaid iPhone .. i think i’ve been swayed by the iPod touch. But I still have doubts on whether to bother since I don’t *need* a phone, arghh!

The Nintendo DSi, I still want to go try it out this weekend. I do love Nintendo 😉 I don’t mind there’s no video or MMS, it’s just a ‘toy’ for me anyway – nothing serious
