HOORAY!! And thank you for all the kind wishes this week 🙂
As with my other pregnancies, I knew that I couldn’t keep my mouth shut any longer and blurted it all out once we hit 8 weeks along. (8 being our lucky number, and me wanting to celebrate life as soon and as often as possible). OK, if I’m honest I told family & random strangers as soon as I found out at 5 weeks. At 6 weeks, I’d already let our genetics team know and had an appointment with them. And at 7 weeks, girlfriends were told.
I blame the morning sickness, which has been as tough (if not tougher) this time around. I am constantly tired and nauseous. I’ve had horrible dizzy spells (couldn’t even tilt my head or lie down to sleep), and I’m eating everything to stay afloat. Luckily it’s been apples, pears, bananas, water and meat pies that make me happy. I’m wearing sea-bands 24/7 and carry around Mentos to help stop my mouth tasting like butt. Hopefully there’s only a few more weeks until that subsides…
So going back to the genetics appointment I mentioned, we knew that if we were ever to fall pregnant again, I’d have to see them asap and make decisions about early prenatal testing. I’d always wave them off with a ‘oh, we’re done having kids thanks!’ but of course in recent months the cogs were turning in my head about possibly having another baby. After speaking to the team (who I love and trust, and who know Jovie and our family well), we’ve decided to go ahead with a CVS in 3 weeks time when I’m 11 weeks and 2 days along.
To say I’m nervous is an understatement, but I’m also so curious about this baby that my excitement is pushing me forward. Rett Syndrome is such a random genetic disorder that I’m not too worried about it popping up again, I’m not a carrier and there is a 99% chance everything is fine. And other disorders, I’m not too worried about – only the ones that affect the quality of life significantly. The CVS itself, I’m half looking forward to because I’ll see my baby on the ultrasound, but then a giant needle will be speared and sawed INTO MY UTERUS. We should get results before Christmas, and good results is the only thing I’ve asked for this year.
I feel pretty lucky to be experiencing pregnancy again, I did love it both other times and loved labour too (yes I’m weird). I just want the rest of the year to go smoothly and am praying that our new little baby has the best start we can give.
