goodness me, we’re at 39 weeks.
i must sound like i’m repeating myself every week but i’m genuinely chuffed and wide eyed at the thought that i’m at this point, let alone about to become a mother in the next few weeks. this time last year, i was mostly worried about whether i could order a 24 pack of Dr Pepper for Regan but now my biggest concern is putting on pants without falling over. i guess i should just sit down? lol.
yesterday’s checkup went well – again i was in and out of the actual appointment within 5 minutes, but waited in traffic, in the waiting room and in the doctor’s room for about 3 hours all up. i don’t have internal examinations in my checkups unless something is wrong, or i ask for one – so i can’t tell you whether i’m dialating or not. i don’t really want to know anyway – i want to just ‘go with it’ and leave my body to do it’s job. we can tell that bub’s head is well and truly engaged (demonstrated by the professional pregnant lady waddle walk i’ve got going on) and i’m still plodding along as well as you can in those ‘last weeks’.
details? my braxton hicks and period type cramps and nausea have stepped up a notch in the past day – i’ve even resorted to using my hot water bottle, which had been in hibernation for the past 2 months because i wanted to get used to the pain and not rely on it. not anymore though – my external lifesaver steps go like this – 1. hot water bottle 2. tens machine 3. panadiene 4. unconsciousness – after that, i’ll consider the hard stuff but until then i will try to deal with it internally for as long as i can (can’t last forever right?)
more details? bub has been headbutting my cervix more constantly this week, so i know he’s down there and having a disco. he’s also kicking my ribs, which hurts, but i’d rather that then the cervix dance. he also triggers some sciatica pain down my right leg, but that comes and goes so that doesn’t bother me much.
the insides of my thighs and my back are aching aching aching – which is a result of my muscles relaxing. it’s been a good opportunity to relax into the pain though, sitting in a yoga position helps and gentle stretches remind me that this is just what my body needs to do.
i still feel like being on my own alot – i’m tired most days, but on odd occasions i’ve been able to get up and walk around or do some housework for a few good hours. i think that’s a thing of the past though – which is fine by me, lol. i know i need to rest now, or it’ll be 50 years before i can sit down again..
i’ve stopped eating like a horse – can’t seem to fit alot in anymore, but my eyes can! my breathing is ok, except for some days when i can’t catch it just sitting down, or especially when i haul my ass to bed – very uncomfortable. the worst ailment is still around though – dead fingertips on my right hand.
despite all that, i’m becoming more emotional about the pregnancy ending soon (i know i’ll miss feeling him hiccup inside my belly! so cute) – but i know i’ve done all i can to grow this child inside of me, and i’m ready for the next step. people have been asking whether i’m scared about ‘the pain’ but i still don’t honestly see it that way – pain is a word for when you’ve been hurt. i’m not hurt and i’m not sick, i’m going to be a mum. bring it on!
