in september 2001, i installed and started blogging here at sh1ft.org.
it was a few days before the terrible events of 9/11, and i was setting up a permanent home for my blog after using services like diary-x.com. back then, i just wanted a place to record what was going on in my life and 10 years later, here i am still plugging along as always.
i was thinking back as to why i registered the domain sh1ft.org and whatever the reason was, i think it was the right one for me. shift. to change. to evolve. to grow. and that’s exactly what 10 years of living will do.
back in 2001, blogging was just a blip on a nerd’s glasses. i remember having to explain what the point was, and it was considered very strange and weird to openly journal. photoblogging was new, nobody knew what a facebook was and nobody cared. fast forward to 2011, and practically everyone has some sort of blog in one way or form.
it doesn’t matter if you’ve been blogging for 10 years or 10 days, each blog is unique and wonderful. i think it’s become such a great way to express yourself over time and get to know people a bit better. i still find so many amazing blogs, which in turn introduces me to so many incredible bloggers, so i’m thankful this blogging thing has taken off the way it has for the community at large.
this blog has seen me through a long distance relationship, engagement, wedding plans, visa application, wedding, buying our first apartment, my first trip to the us, a trip to malaysia, gluten free food adventures, first pregnancy, selling our apartment, buying our townhouse, first baby, second pregnancy, second baby and more currently an autism diagnosis.
i’m very proud to have 10 years of blogging history to look back on and look forward to what the next 10 years of blogging will report!
