Regan and I have been hankering to take Mischa swimming. we thought it would be good exercise for her hip muscles (since she has hip dysplasia) and poodles are supposed to enjoy the water (as do most dogs, i guess!).
so after 4pm, over the bridge and around the corner we went – i had heard about a dog friendly beach across the harbour and figured that on a nice hot sunny day it would be worth checking out at least once.
after taking the wrong turn (darn construction work got me confused) and missing the street to turn down, we found the hidden cove with the million dollar mansions perched up on the steep hill. the beach isn’t a swimming beach, which is why i guess dogs are welcome 😛 but it was still a nice (very) quiet family spot where the parking is free, your pup can run around and you can catch some rays. in the distance you can see the city (which is about 15 mins away by car), so it’s hard to believe you’re so close to the cbd, yet you could be mistaken for being up the coast somewhere.
as soon as we got there, Mischa seemed to attract the fancy of a certain dog named Max. he followed her the whole time, following her across the reserve, down the stairs, over the sand, into the water, back over the sand … it was cute, but the mounting wasn’t, lol.
anyway, Mischa seemed to like being there, off leash and in the water, we could see that her back legs were getting a work out and she wasn’t in any pain at the same time. she looked like she had wandered 10 years in a sandstorm by the time we were done haha. sand. everywhere.
we’re definately going back!
Sirius Cove Rd, Mosman
just head towards Taronga Zoo
dogs are allowed off leash before 9am and after 4pm on weekends, all day on weekdays.
i don’t watch grey’s anatomy (can’t stand that lead woman) but i thought Chandra Wilson’s acceptance speech at the screen actors guild award was lovely
And last but not least, just to be able to take this thing home to my girls, in particular, and hold it in front of them and say, “Look, with this skin and this nose, and this height, and these arms,” you know, “I’m here!”
i’d like to be able to say that to my kids (not after winning a SAG, of course – but just with regular folk stuff like waking up in the morning and knowing that your crooked smile and your lazy eye doesn’t need to be changed for you to feel good about yourself).
aka, happy australia day tracey, now pee your pants.
so i was up on the roof, taking photos of the australia day fireworks in darling harbour (and also trying to spot darn comet mcnaught with no luck) when just as we thought the fireworks were over this red light appears in the distance.
the red light seems to grower bigger, and then starts to move towards us on the roof. it passes slowly over darling harbour and over the powerhouse museum, in the process revealing itself to be one of those fighter jets with a glowing firey tail.
as i try to steady myself from falling over the side of the building, trying not to scream and run – i actually DUCK as if the jet was going to land on the rooftop with us, because for all i know it was coming for me or it was going to fire a few rounds into the pool. (you know, like in the movies).
within the 10 seconds it takes for all of this to happen, i’m looking up under the jet in wonder – what the heck are they trying to do to us on australia day? scare the bejesus out of the us on the rooftop?
with my mouth ajar, i’m trying to take photos as evidence of how close this thing was to my head – but the camera doesn’t focus and all i get is something that looks like the sun in the night sky.
it disappeared into the atmosphere behind the city, and i was left there to figure out what was going on.
Regan calls me on my mobile, he was downstairs in our apartment when we thought he heard a bomb go off outside. i had to explain to him, without using too many cuss words, what had happened. he had only one question – why? i’m trying to figure that out, maybe there’s an explanation on the website for the exhibition. all i know is that if they had a camera on board, you would see a bunch of scared stunned asians on a rooftop with eyes wider than the horizon.
ahhh i need a stiff drink. and a new pair of pants.
i just wanted to see some fireworks, man. i guess i got a bonus round.
