sad times, hard times, good times

so, this week has been a bit harder, weirder, longer than my ‘usual’ week.
my ‘usual’ week, i work and the kids are with my parents (or at home with Regan). this week was/is a little different.
on saturday, just after finishing a yummy yum cha brunch (yes I had a bit too!), mum got a call that her father had had a stroke and it wasn’t look good. he had been in the hospital for the past few weeks, for treatment for cancer. anyway, dad and i had already planned to go out to the gluten free expo together after yum cha, so we went and came back quick so that we could help mum organise her ticket back to malaysia and get things organised. we had known for a while that he wasn’t well, so it wasn’t a total shock but this time, we knew something was different.
since my parents usually take both kids while i work during the week and mum was going to be away for a while, dad took Jasper on monday while he organised himself a ticket and other things and Jovie came to work with me. she was surprisingly really good, i suppose because she’s not crawling anywhere yet she has no choice but to sleep 😛 my grandfather sadly passed away on monday night, at home surrounded by family. my dad left on tuesday and i had the kids on wednesday and thursday, and Regan has them today. my grandfather’s funeral was on wednesday, with more ceremonies today. Mischa has come to stay with us, i’ll have the kids again on the weekend while Regan works and mum will be back on sunday night.
so why am i detailing this? many reasons why – how fantastic i think my family is, how we pull together and how much my parents do for us. how tiring and adult and fun and lucky we have it.
i don’t pretend to know my grandfather, i’ve only met him three times in my life, we speak different languages and are from very different generations and lifestyles, but his passing has made an effect on me. it’s made me see how lucky that my children know their grandparents as well as they do, and how the passing of one generation makes me feel like my generation has stepped up, naturally on their own accord. i say this very often in my blog, but i do feel very fortunate, happy and blessed to live the life that i do. it’s nothing fancy, i’m not rich or famous, but i have everything that i need, right here with me and that’s all you can ask for.
