home work

i’m getting a little nest-y (read: obsessed) with finishing a few things off in our house, lately. when we first moved in about 8 months ago, i was getting VERY pregnant and didn’t have the time or energy to buy the bits and pieces i thought we needed.

finally!now, that i’m willing and able, i’m finally doing the small things to keep me happy – like today we made a trip to IKEA to get that 1 dining chair to complete our set (yay!), i also picked up a couple of metres of some cool fabric to cover J’s nursery chair which i’ve now stolen for our living room because it’s so cute!

i also found some cool wall stickers, which i’m itching to put up in our foyer but am still ummm-ing about painting the wall first… which brings me to another question

i think painting & wallpapering the walls is not an aussie thing? at least it’s not a tracey thing. i’ve never lived in a house with a painted (apart from the standard default paint job) or wallpapered wall. regan thinks that’s weird – he’s determined on painting his music room bright blue or green or yellow (he’s serious) and i’m just happy there’s a door on that room, lol.

multi-tasking zombies

so we’re X weeks without solid sleep again (I say ‘X’ because we’ve lost count and don’t have enough brain power to think back when this all started – Jasper teething waking him/us in the night) … we’re used to it now, but there’s still an hour a day where my mind just glazes over like a honey ham, roasting in a hot oven.

but apart from waking up at midnight, 2am, 3am, 4am and 6am AND doing 11 hour days at work – i’m trying to get things done on my days off while trying to spend some time with Jasper. my biggest ‘projects’ are to get an armchair for our living room area, to ‘maybe’ paint the feature wall in the hallway, to install a small shelf in the bathroom downstairs, to get more blankets (done!) and to finally buy and install the pendant lights for all the downstairs fixtures.

one thing that we did get done this weekend, was visit Regan at work! when we lived in the city, i was up everywhere, every weekend – walking around, taking photos and just exploring the places that i hadn’t seen (or loved, and kept going back to). so it’s been about 8 months since i’d been back in any way and this time i had a little critter to tag along! although he slept, it was nice to do part of my usual weekend walk, and really cool to visit Regan at work again. (mmmm cake). we’ll definately be back again – i’m going to try and make it a bi-monthly thing (hey, fuel is expensive these days!) and maybe extend the walk so it stretches from chinatown up to the rocks and back… but it all depends on the weather and how well the streets of Sydney are built for a pram

it’ll be my birthday in over a week’s time, and i don’t really have anything planned on purpose (apart from sushi, but that’s not new!). i’d really just love to have a sleep in! or that armchair … or some pots of paint …

the lovely weekend

it was my boss’ wedding yesterday, so Regan and i dropped Jasper with grandma and we took the drive up to Leura, up in the Blue Mountains. it was a gorgeous afternoon! i kept on ‘oooh’-ing and ‘ahhh’-ing at the beautiful trees and their shades of green, yellow and red (Regan said it was like i’d never seen a tree before, lol) – it’s really pretty this time of year. the sun stayed out for their garden ceremony and we all had a great time celebrating out in the sunshine and fresh air.

we got there a little early and thought about checking out a lookout point, but then again semi-formal gear and hiking 175m down rocky steps doesn’t sound like they go hand in hand.

it was nice to get away from the suburbs a bit, we would love to take Jasper up there someday soon ..
