on toilet training

so… it’s safe to say that my Jasper, now just over 3 years old, is toilet trained!
i’ve had many ‘tsk tsk’s’ and some ‘oh, really? not yet?’ comments over the past 2 years about why he wasn’t toilet trained yet – but you know what? he wasn’t ready, i wasn’t going to push him and i’m happy to say it all worked out relatively easy without hassles
i decided that the summer holiday was the perfect time to try again – i had 2 weeks off work and it was hot enough to walk around with no pants on (Jasper, not me! lol). in the first few days, maybe 2 accidents? and since then – nothing. we were really expecting a literal crap festival – i had bought extra carpet cleaning stuff and had them on hand but i haven’t had to use it. i count ourselves lucky!
my tips if you’re after it – is to not make it a stressful thing, if they’re not ready then they’re just not. try again in a few weeks time. we waited until Jasper was very competent in following instructions and he understood what we were talking about and just let him know what the toilet was for. treats work, but try and phase them out really quickly if possible. i don’t like to reward too much for doing something that should be second nature. go cold turkey from day 1 – no nappies anymore, or at least none during the day time. they won’t like getting wet and dirty so should be more open to going to the potty or toilet.
