there’s been a controversial series on the tele about 3 different methods of bringing up your baby.
Bringing Up Baby takes the guiding principles of three of last century’s most influential childcare manuals – Dr Truby King’s 1913 book Feeding and Care of Baby, Dr Benjamin Spock’s Baby and Child Care and Jean Liedloff’s 1975 The Continuum Concept – and observes six families as they put into practice their chosen method for the first few months of their babies’ lives.
i’ve been watching, through cringing eyes and a sad heart. while i think help is good and guidance is fine, i’m a true believer on instinct, even as a new mum. following a book was just not for me. it’s great to have one around to consult (e.g. I have The Wonder Weeks, which is great to open my mind as to what could be going on), but i could never put my babies outside in the cold by themselves for hours while i enjoy a glass of wine, just because a book told me to. i could never NOT cuddle and kiss and spend time with my newborn, just because a book told me to. i certainly do not think my baby is manipulating me and is an attention seeker when she vomits or cries. what the?
like i said, we won’t know everything about how to raise a baby whether we’ve done it before or not, and i know they’re doing this for the sake of the tv program. it’s an interesting series, no doubt. but to see those new parents get beat down is distressing and seeing those babies go without a cuddle, just sucks :/
have you seen Bringing Up Baby?
not much to report on this end, which is good in a way 🙂
Jasper is such a character – dancing more, ‘talking’ more, just generally being an adorable toddler – with bouts of teething (we think he’s getting about 6 at once at the moment) and clingyness. he’s understanding more and more each day, LOVES to talk on the phone but we have no idea what he’s saying. he’s a pro at climbing up onto the couch and using it as a trampoline, which gives me a heart attack.
Regan’s fantastic too – working hard and really stepping up with Jasper lately because i’m turning into a sloth day by day. he’s hoping to take a month off work when baby girl arrives, so it will be great to have him around the house more 🙂 it’s going to be such a great time in both of our lives!!!
me, i’m getting there – still loving being pregnant but finding it hard to do things because of the general aches of morphing into ‘all belly’ again. work is tough, i’m fighting pregnancy brain though! weekends have been full of baking and resting which is nice. i’m definately getting into a nesting stage.
i mentioned it before, but i’m working hard to get all my blogs and shopping directory up to stratch so that i can not worry about redesigning them for at least 6 months. my sister and i still have plans to set up an online store – but i’ve had no time to ring the ATO about my ABN (which has expired without me knowing!).
i keep forgetting to post about this weird pregnancy thing i have. i had it with Jasper and now i have it again – i get the ‘scaredy cats’! my MIL bought me dexter season 1 and 2 on dvd for xmas, and i cannot bring myself to watch it yet LOL i *love* dexter and did watch most of season 1 already, but that was before getting pregnant. the other day i tried to psyche myself up to watch it, but chickened out – and later that night i had the most freakiest nightmares ever! so i’m sticking to my sitcoms a little while longer 😛
waking up to hear the news, well i’m just glad i get to wake up and hear the news. to experience it, to lose your life’s belongings, to lose your life – i can’t being to imagine.
108 people confirmed dead, more than 750 homes lost – but expect those numbers to rise.
and i agree, if someone has deliberately lit these fires, they deserve the title of being a ‘murderer’. shameless.
