don’t let it pass you by

today is Monday. MONDAY. I woke up thinking it was Saturday and I had time to get my weekend-y stuff done, and to hang out with the kids. imagine my surprise when my alarm goes off and it says it’s time to start the week, again.

where did those days go? i know i did get stuff done, but it’s passed me by without tapping me on the shoulder to say HEY YOU’RE FALLING BEHIND!

i fully appreciate that there’s time to step back and retreat, but there’s also times to stand up and do a roundhouse kick to the face of my to-do list… i have new projects i’m working on, and i don’t want to push them aside. i have playgroups to get to, therapy to be done, school drop off’s and tears to stop.

today is Monday, and i’m starting all over again.

Take a deep breath…

Monday afternoon, just after finishing some emails and ready to start on a new design project – my laptop crashes. And I mean completely crashes, a billion alerts and everything is gone.

All my design files, fonts, blog work, bookmarks, user names & passwords some of Jovie’s documents, all my iPhone photo backups, 3 YEARS of photos from my Canon — all disappeared within a few seconds. The last few years of my life and work have been erased from reach.

Thankfully, I’ve developed a thick skin when it comes to things like this. The last few months have taught my patience and value – and while yes, all those files would be awesome to have, if I never get them back then life will go on.

I’m very happy that I’ve become such an Instagram addict, as alot of my photos are online out there on the interwebs.

I’m also grateful that I kept a spare (cheap) laptop, and that I have a good memory when it comes to fonts I love and websites I always visit.

It’s taken me half a day to get back up to speed on current projects, but starting on a clean slate feels good! There’s room to breathe and a blank canvas to personalise. But the first chance I get today, I’m heading out to get a portable external hard drive and backing everything up. Twice.

in the eye of the storm

i woke up early this morning, refreshed and wide eyed. the house was still asleep so i quietly sat in the spare room where the sun rises through the curtains. it was just me and the kookaburra’s, the neighbourhood outside was still basking in the morning light.

it’s been a busy week. a few hospital visits (nothing bad or new to report, just a regular check up for Regan and a neurology appointment for Jovie), swimming, playgroups, therapy, cheapie photo shoot for the kids, thunderstorms, blue skies.

the warmth from the morning sun reminded me to stop, even for those few minutes, as if to tell me how far we’ve all come and how far we’ve got to go. i wonder alot about our future, but every day i am very conscious to enjoy the present because before you know it, the week has passed you by and all you’ll have left is (hopefully) memories.
