Hello, Hello Owl!

The new home for Danielle’s Hello Owl is now live 🙂

I’ve been working on it with her for the past week or so and it’s actually been alot of fun. I’ve been working with websites for small to large businesses for 10 years now, but working on blogs & blog design has always been done as a personal hobby. I’m definately thinking about taking on more blog design projects if they’re this fun to work on!

Here’s some tips for having your blog or website redesigned
1. Know what you like – collect pictures (pinterest is great for this!) and bookmark sites that you love the look of
2. Know what you don’t like – about your current blog/site, about others.
3. Don’t go overboard – I feel that the content (your blog entries, your photos etc) will be the feature of your website. The design is the frame.
4. Choose colours you like to wear – for the same reason as 3 above, the design will stay the same for however long you keep it, so it’s like wearing your most favourite clothes and displaying your Sunday best 🙂
5. Stay true to who you are – especially for a blog, keep it as close to ‘you’ as possible. If you can’t do this with design, do it with the content you post.

My next project is the redesign & move of my online store Stitch Baby + Kids on Monday! It’s 95% done – a brand new store, new software and new template. Can you tell I’m a bit of a design geek?

Thankful Thursday: Good Husbands

I cannot tell you the value of a good husband. A good husband with a fantastic immune system.

These past 2 weeks would not have been as ‘easy’ if not for my husband Regan. He miraculously and successfully avoided the bout of colds we’ve all had in the past few weeks and on his days off work, he let me hibernate back in bed after being up all night with Jovie or with my own nagging cough, no questions asked. He brings me cake home at least once a week, which is way better than any bouquet of flowers. And in all the time i’ve been off work (2 months more than planned now), he’s never pressured me to ‘get back to work already’. I can’t tell you how much that has helped me not freak out about work, money, our future, our lives.

Today is fittingly Thanksgiving, but we’ll be celebrating on Sunday with my family with a traditional roast and pumpkin pies. Today I am thankful for marrying so well and making the best decision in my entire life.

xx

moving forward

Apologies for the lack of blog posts, I won’t bore you with the details but let’s just say our colds got alot worse before they got better! I missed out on a couple of great events I was invited/booked in for this past week, and I’ve made it a point to not let that happened again. Stay healthy, stay positive.

Today was Jovie’s first occupational therapy assessment 🙂 To say I’m excited to get started is an understatement, but I’m also anxious about what the OT will report back to us. It’s no surprise to me what Jovie can and can’t do, but hearing it from a professional in professional/medical terms is tough.

I find it hard to place expectations on Jovie but I think over time that will make me lazy, if that makes sense? It’s like saying ‘I’ll never be successful at playing tennis’, you’ll never be successful if you don’t believe it at some point.

This first assessment today went as expected – Jovie didn’t really show any interested in toys, bubbles or whistles. The hammock was too much for her (maybe too enclosed?) but she did love the big tire swing alot. Not at first, but the OT and I kept at it and she ended up being there for a while. She introduced ‘stop’ and ‘more’ flash cards that Jovie did seem to look at which was awesome. Her eye contact has been improving lately 🙂 The OT did try the brush techique and joint compression which was interesting…

I made a little video with some of the clips I took quickly here and there – I definately want to make more videos as we go along

Our last assessment is next week (hopefully the speech therapist will be there too) and then there’s a wait (of course) and then a meeting about what they recommend for Jovie.

I’m really glad to be moving forward, finally.
